Portrait services, photo restoration and digitizing : Most of us hate posing for photos, and it shows in the finished product. My goal is for you to forget I'm there, to not see the camera and to capture you the way you really are, unposed and natural. I don't believe people are comfortable sitting in front of lights, in front of a backdrop with assistants pointing reflectors in your direction. So I try to get you outside, or get the shot in your home, wherever you feel comfortable. Because it's the way you look when you're just being yourself that people remember and love. You won't remember the moment on your wedding day when the photographer lined you up in a group for a shot. It's the moments that you're lost in, that you want to remember. And it's moments like that which I try to capture. I do portraits, family photos, engagement photos, senior portraits, as well as weddings and family reunions. As far as I'm concerned, once you've paid me the sitting fee, you're done paying. You can download full resolution images and have them printed wherever you like. Or if you want your prints to look the best that they can, you can order directly from my site, at more than reasonable prices. I also provide photo restoration services, repairing digitally the damage done by time and countless hands to your family photographs. I can also digitize your photos, and provide you with a disk as well as a website from which you can share with friends and family and order prints. I try to see you with the eye of an artist, but more than anything else, I let you be yourself, and capture the results. fantasy portraits : I bristle when I read an advertisement for picture frames and they say something like "perfect for photographs and art." My education and early experience was in drawing and painting, so I'm allowed to take offense. Whether you capture it with a brush, a camera or a lump of clay, it's art if it captures something about you that doesn't always show on the outside. It's amazing what we can learn about ourselves by putting on a mask or costume, and fantasy portraits are a way to let your hidden side out. Be the Girl With The Pearl Earring. Carry on a mad tea party. Capture your child the way they see themselves in play. If you can imagine it, we can create it.  I come to you and take the photographs in your home, or wherever you feel most comfortable. And then I build the world around your photo that you wish to inhabit. Want a portrait of you and your sweetie atop a wind swept cliff, splashing in the surf of a tropical island or leaping hand in hand over the moon? Not a problem. Turn your little one into an elf, or release his inner wizard.  Fantasy portraits are fun, unique and sure to surprise everyone who sees them. wedding and event : It's the most important day of your life, everyone is looking at you, do you also want someone loaded down with camera gear, poking their lens in your face? It's unfortunate how often wedding photographers become a part of the event - showing up in photos, directing people in poses, changing the light and environment to to suit their needs. You shape the wedding around the photography, holding the pose before you cut the cake, faces frozen in time posing before you throw the bouquet - and the best moments, the ones people remember, are the ones just before and after the ones where you've struck the pose. I don't work that way. True, there are certain shots you have to get - a formal shot of the bride and groom, the wedding party, the parents - but wouldn't your day feel a lot more natural if you didn't have to stop and pose all night long? You won't remember the moment on your wedding day when the photographer lined you up in a group for a shot. It's the moments that you're lost in, that you want to remember. And it's moments like that which I try to capture. It doesn't matter if it's a wedding, a birthday party, a music recital - your job is to relax and have a good time. Mine is to find great photos, photos which capture the moment the way it really happened. portrait photography : When you pose for a photo, you present yourself the way you're used to seeing yourself. The frozen smile is something we train ourselves to do, and isn't the way we naturally look. The person you see in the mirror doesn't look half as good as the person everyone else sees the rest of the time. Most of us hate posing for photos, and it shows in the finished product. My goal is for you to forget I'm there, to not see the camera and to capture you the way you really are, unposed and natural. I doubt you are comfortable sitting in front of lights, in front of a backdrop with assistants pointing reflectors in your direction. And besides, photo backdrops make everyone's portrait look the same. So I try to get you outside, or get the shot in your home, using natural light, wherever you can relax.  Bringing a friend to your photo session, someone to talk to whom you feel comfortable with. Have a glass of wine or beer if you like (but watch the red wine - purple lips isn't the effect we're after). If we're shooting in the home, turn on a favorite movie, your favorite music. Have your children around if you like, for there is seldom as beautiful a face as a parent looking at their children. bio and rates : Primarily a travel photographer though I've done portraits and events for over 25 years, my work has appeared in the New York Times, Indianapolis Post, CNN, Broadway World and BBC websites, multiple selections of the Karma Photo of the Day, and travel sites for Savannah, Georgia; Donegal, Ireland and Bath, England.
